Madame Butterfly

Work performed on the Santa Fe Opera's 2026 production of Madame Butterfly. I served as a Paint/Dye Assistant, as a remount, I worked with our team lead and design team to match the color palette of the original production and make updates as needed. Since much of the production already existed I was able to focus much of my attention on one character who required a full rebuild, Suzuki. I was responsible for all of the dye work of new yardage for her costume, and aged her entire costume. My work on Suzuki was a delicate balance, needing to convey a realistic, lived-in aesthetic that speaks to Suzuki's profession as a maid. While also being careful to avoid exaggeration and cartoonish levels of grime. achieving our desired aesthetic under the harsh, intense Opera lights was a fine line to walk, but was deeply gratifying to execute.
